Slowly crawling to the finish line

I'm still working on my sweater. I'm so close, but it still seems like the end is so far away! After finishing the sleeves, the next step is to sew the shoulder seams together. I binded off the wrong part on the front panel of the sweater! Unbelievable. I had stitch holders where they should have been binded off, and then it was binded off where the stitch holder was supposed to be.

I had been staring at the front and back panels of the sweater and couldn't figure out how on earth I was supposed to sew the shoulder seams together, and when I realize what I had screwed up on, well, there is no nice way to describe how I felt.

I had already cut the yarn on that part too. I tried to undo the binded off section, but it wasn't working out for me, so I ended up unraveling about two rows and then adding more yarn, managed to bind off where I should have in the first place, and then hallelujah, sewed the shoulder seams together. Whoo hoo!

Now, I'm working on the second to last part of the sweater. The hood. Thirteen inches to go, and then I can sew the whole thing together - and I'll be done!!!

I can't wait to start on my Christmas projects. They're small items this time, so they shouldn't take me too long. I've been concentrating on the sweater so much that I haven't made anything else since those little baby hats and booties in September.

I have tons of yarn, so my hubby has banned me from buying anymore until I actually use up some of it first. Well, darn it, I'll just have to knit more!!!

What the ?!?

I finally found a new radio station at work where I actually get a strong reception, so for once, the music I like comes through nice and clear - and I don't have to adjust my dial every few hours. I'm thinking SCORE!

Problem is that in between every song, they run station plugs and commercials. Lots of commercials.

Normally I just tune out the 'non-music' parts, but this commercial caught my attention. It's about becoming a surrogate mother. A young sounding girl says, "I've been a surrogate mother three times. If you like being pregnant, like I do, then I'd like to talk to you..." What the hell kind of commercial is that?

This is a station that is obviously aimed for the younger crowd - the commercials mainly consist of ads for modeling casting calls, acne medication, and certain movies.

... but plugging surrogate motherhood? Are you kidding me?

It's hard planning a party!

Aside from work, it's been a very busy time in general. For the last month or so, I had been planning a trip to Santa Cruz for a Bachelorette Party. Trying to coordinate nine girls coming from different cities, from Lake Tahoe to Sacramento, is not the easiest thing.

The biggest drama was getting the house rental. I don't know anything about Santa Cruz or the Capitola area, so all my research relied on what I could find on the internet. If our party was able to stay the whole weekend, there wouldn't have been any problems - but, as it was, most could only stay Saturday night. Our search limited us to a one night rental.

Let me tell you, people who rent beach homes do not prefer renting them for one night only. So, that made our search drop from say 100 results, to about 5. And lets not mention that people book way in advance, and I was looking within a few weeks of the actual trip.

Long story shortened, I found a perfect place by the beach. I made the agreement with the owner and sent in my deposit. A day later, I get an email from the management company saying that they received a deposit from another group who wanted the house for the same night, and I was bumped. What had happened was, the owner didn't tell the management company that she made an agreement with me - and I never new there was a management company that I should I gone through. What a mess. I never heard from the owner again (not surprisingly), but the mgmt. company was very apologetic and offered discounts for other nights and such - but I didn't need that. I needed the house that weekend.

Luckily, one of the girls going to the party has a friend, whose parents own a house in Capitola. God bless them, they let us rent their home for that one night. We were set.

Now we had to plan the games and such for the party. Ordering goodies online (that was interesting research), and making sure each girl brought things. In the past few years, I've been to several bachelorette parties, so I was able to pull ideas from those. Most were drinking games that we modified a bit so that we all wouldn't be sloshed before dinner. ;)

The party was last Saturday - and it turned out to be a perfect weekend. The most important thing is that our bride-to-be had a blast. Whew! Lots of laughs, and pictures I'm not at liberty to share. Hee hee... It was a great weekend.

I don't understand

I've got an hour left at work. I'm tired. I'm grouchy. And now I'm nauseated. Why? Because someone on my floor apparently likes to bathe himself in cologne. I don't know him, but I'm sure he thinks he's being polite by stepping away from his cube and standing near the break area to make his personal phone calls. But my cube is near the break area - not only can I hear his conversation - I am breathing nothing but stinky cologne. MY GOD! I have my fan on full blast to get some air, but it's not helping much. Why do people do that?

I've always heard that if you can smell the perfume or cologne on yourself after an hour, then you're wearing too much. I don't think this guy's nose functions anymore. His sinuses have probaby shriveled up by now. I wonder how much he spends on cologne every year?

Yes, I'm annoyed that I'm sitting here, working away, and this comes in to invade my space. I guess I should just thank my lucky stars that I don't sit next to the guy.

On a much happier note, I've been busy planning a bachelorette weekend for my good friend. She has four bridesmaids - and I'm one of them. So, together with one other bridesmaid, we're handling this party, and the other two are handling the bridal shower next month.

We're heading down to Capitola on Saturday. It's threatening to rain here in San Francisco, so I don't know if it will affect anything over the weekend. But if we don't end up going to the beach, that's fine with me. I'm not in my bikini shape right now. We have lots of games planned, dinner reservations, a list of bars and clubs... I think we're set. I can't wait!
